KAMWENGE DISTRICT, UGANDA

KSVI is situated in Kamwenge District, in Western Uganda. It is a 5 hour drive from Kampala City. It is about 378km via Mbarara, South West of Kampala. Kamwenge Secondary and Vocational Institute is located at Rwengoro just 15km on Kamwenge - Fort Portal road.

Kamwenge District has a population of 295,313 people with a growth rate of 3.3% p.a. according to 2002 Uganda Population and Housing Census. Sixty five (65%) percent of these are Youths. The District borders with the Districts of Kabarole in the North, Kasese in the West, Ibanda and Bushenyi in the South and Kyenjojo and Kiruhura in the East.

The Equator cuts across the District. It has a warm tropical climatic condition with a Savana type of grassland. It receives 2 rainfall seasons every year. It hosts Lake George and Kibale Game Reserve the home of Hippos, Buffaloes, Antelopes, Elephants, birds and different types of fish.

The economy of the area depends on subsistence agriculture farming using rudimentary methods. The infrastructures of the District include a murram road network joining it with Ibanda and Fort Portal Town. The railway line from Kasese and Kilembe Mines passes through Kamwenge Town to Kampala. The town is supplied by Hydro Electricity Power from Jinja and is connected to Mobile Telecommunication Network.
